Close Encounter With a Monster

I was in my bed, wrapped up in my cozy down comforter, reading a book, when out of the corner of my eye, I suddenly saw something fly across my room.  I quickly threw my book down and slowly scanned the room.  I noticed one of the crystals on my chandelier lamp was swinging from side to side, so I cautiously walked up to it to examine whatever it was that had flown in my room.  As I looked at my chandelier, I let out a scream so loud that I scared myself.  A preying mantis was just chillin' on my lamp!

My first thought was to run out of the room, which I did and stood in the doorway watching and waiting for it to move.  And then I thought that if it did move, what the heck was I going to do with it jumping around my stuff?  So, I did what only a sane girl would do, and grabbed the things that were most important to me: my cell phone, my laptop, my makeup, a pair of jeans, my book and my comforter.  I was thinking that I had to be prepared for the next few days when I would not be able to access my room because of this new inhabitant.  And then, I thought how ridiculous I looked and felt lugging my belongings into the living room.  I threw my things on the floor and went back to the doorway of my room, cell phone in hand, and called the roommate (who was out on the town for the evening).  When she didn't answer I called the bf and left a pathetic message that pretty much said, "Help me, I'm helpless."  Crazy thoughts were running through my head, like how I was going to get through the week, and how I would have to live on our couch for a while.  Suddenly, my phone rang.  It was Florian! The bf came through and drove (with support...thank you, Sile) to my house.  And like it was nothing, the preying mantis, who was getting all comfy in my room, was quickly taken from my room and put outside.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how I ended my evening.

My dearest Julia,
Thank you for the biggest laugh after a long and tiring weekend. Talk about visualization. You could definitely work this into your lessons plans for that reading strategy. I love it! Glad to hear that adorable BF of yours came to your rescue. I knew he was a keeper! LOL
