First of all, I'd like to begin by saying that my school has the most dedicated, intelligent and stylish faculty/staff. Oh you think your place of work is better? I CHALLENGE YOU. Pretty much, you'd die. We, at the Brook, are the best. Me included.
Here's only a small reason we are so cool. Last year, two of my co-workers came up with the Secret Pal exchange. The participants fill out a secret pal questionnaire (which I took very seriously this year) and every month you present your pal with gifts. Little pick me ups that say, "I hope you have a good day." A limit is set on how much to spend so that people do not go overboard.
Regretfully, I did not participate last year. Money was tight. This year, the pants are tight, so money is clearly not the problem. So, I decided to participate this year. I was excited to deliver some gifts to my secret buddy.
Anywhoo, I have received 2 gifts from my buddy already. Count them. TWO. Let me recapitulate what I have been showered with at work:
1. A Foosball table.
A whhhhaaaaat??? Yes, it's true. A vintage foosball table delivered directly to my classroom.
Wasn't sure what to do with it, since it was taking over my room. And most of my students wanted to challenge me to a game instead of working on their writing. And, had I had a ball, I would have. It would have been cool to take home, too. But in the midst of construction, the LG would have killed me.
The reason for this gift, well...I am the best foosball player around. THE best. I challenge you. And you. And you. I'm not afraid. I'll win.
2. Marie Claire magazine (looooves it!)....but I hafta say that the wrap job was the best part evah.
Yes, those are real vintage dolls that say: Hi, I'm Happy Julia. (the one in the yellow) and Hi, I'm powerful Julia. (the one in the red). Does my secret pal really think I look like a mini Barbie? Hmm...maybe I do.
Oh, how I am looking forward to relaxing at some point during my busy week and opening up the zine.
And so this is only the first month of the Secret Pal exchange. In February we reveal ourselves to our secret buddy. I am beyond excited that I decided to participate in this.
And to my Secret Pal, whoever you are, I heart you. You made my Monday just grand. :)
