Sara taught across the hall from me that year. She had a student whose mother was the most beautiful hispanic woman. Always dressed to the nines, always classy, always smiling. She was a diva, for sure.
The one thing that Sara and I remember and loved about her was her red lipstick that screamed "I am woman, hear me roar!" She always wore those lips and we always admired them.
One day Sara purchased some red lipstick. We congregated in her classroom and I watched as she carefully applied her red lips at 8:40am, five minutes prior to the arrival of our students.
"Do you think it's appropriate?" she asked with a giggle.
"YES," I replied enviously. "You must wear it, just like Jose's mom- with confidence."
And so she did. During the same time, I had purchased my own red lips, only to be met with disappointment. Apparently, with red lips I looked like Bozo the Clown.
Shade after shade, year after year (okay, just two years...but it was a long time) I searched for the perfect shade of red to smear on my lips. I would buy some, only to throw it away, or mail it to Sara (when she changed schools) so that her lips could be adorned with that perfect shade of red. For some time, I gave up my quest.
UNTIL....
this weekend. I ventured into ULTA and found myself two perfect shades. Apparently, all that it took was finding a shade with a little bluish tint to it. Orangish would make me look like a clown, but bluish would make me look fabulous.
Some pink lips a la Jose's mom. :)
