That seemed to be the question of the day in the upstairs section of 1/2 multiage. Today I listened to Sara scolding two of her girls (in a teacher voice) who decided to go for a stroll around the hallways instead of going to the bathroom.
"My job is to keep you safe. I did not know where you were. When I do not know where you are, I get very worried."
The instant Sara and I walked away, we began to laugh. Because what else can you do in situations like these? These kids are sneaky and they're really good at it! Kids, we applaud you.
After recess, one of my little boys (specifically the one with the looooong hair that falls in his face, prohibiting him from being able to write anything legibly, and requiring me to pin it back with a paperclip daily) points at another boy (this boy is just too funny to describe) in Sara's class and says," That boy over there called me a name." Sara and I ask him what the name was, because we can take it.
"He called me Jonathan Fartikus."
Cue: quick exchange of teacher eye contact and loud simultaneous uncontrollable laugher.
We look down unsympathetically at Jonathan, who realizes that it is actually funny and decides to walk away. Problem solved, right? Well, yes, but as teachers, we are always interested in uncovering the root of the problem. So over we walk to the name caller, who naturally denies everything, especially coming up with "Fartikus."
Then, I heard it: "We should call the monster Fartikus!"
That's right-that's what Sara said.
"What monster, Sara?" I ask curiously.
Suddenly, Sara bursts into laughter and tells me the story of the monster in her classroom that is invisible. And when her students walk through the hallway, the monster (who has huge ears, but is blind) chases after them. In order for them not to get caught, they must be extra quiet in the hall.
Wow.
This, my friends, is the life of a primary school teacher.

I am Fartikus...Fartikus I am! Okay, well since I created Fartikus I guess I should be able to claim him as myself.
Wow is right for this moment in life! The insanity continues!
Julia,
I am inspired. Just as you have helped me enter the world of Myspace, you have also opened the door to the world of blogging.
Life's moments should be captured!
