Indian Cuisine

My friend Missy is the type of person who comes to work with an amazing spread of healthy, delicious and colorful food for her lunch. Each day, I drool at her delectable food, which she kindly offers, and I gladly accept. What's interesting is that both Missy and I really enjoy food and we like to eat many of the same things.

Today, we decided to go out for an ethnic lunch at and Indian American restaurant in the city. Never having eaten Indian food, we were both curious and excited to find some new tastes that we enjoyed. This particular restaurant was set up as a buffet. Everything was obviously home-cooked and very fresh. We loaded up our plates full of unknowns and took a bite.

Cue simultaneous coughing and reaching for water.

No, it's not that the food didn't appeal to our taste buds...it was all just surprisingly spicy. Everything. I continued coughing and then slowly got used to the spiciness of everything. As I was trying to decide if I liked what I was eating, Missy blurted out, "I'm not so sure I like Indian food!" I began to laugh and realized that I feel the same way.

I love to try new things, and I'm glad I tried this, but the saucy-ness of the food and the spicy-ness didn't appeal to me. We both, however, really enjoyed the carbs.

The Naan was excellent-warm and fresh out of the oven.

The rice was good.

And so was the dessert, which was this ball of dough that was soaked in minty sweet rose water.

Those three things were really my favorite. So do I like Indian food? Not particularly. Would I eat there again? Probably if I could just get some fresh Naan!

I just burst out laughing. I could not have describe this experience any better myself. I had a fun time though!

It was great, wasn't it? We'll have to do it again. This time, maybe Moroccan??
