A little lesson on Romanian tradition brought to you by "the Love Guru"

Here's what I learned this week from the Love Guru:

March 1st is Martisoare (martz-ee-shware), which is a holiday celebrated in certain regions of Romania. It is a celebration of the end of winter and the beginning of spring. In LG's region of the country, girls all over the city go to the store and buy little pins, which they then pin on a boy/boyfriend/love guru.

Because he was such a "smooth operator" in grade school, the love guru claims to sometimes have had his whole shirt covered in pins. A few days ago, during the holiday, the love guru got a pin from one of his favorite women alive (no, no, not me) his mom. She presented him with the pin, which he probably wore proudly during the day.

Anyhoo...on March 8th, the favor is returned. March 8th is International Women's Day. On this day, the boys/boyfriends/love gurus across Romania (and Europe) shower their girl with flowers and (I like to think) small gifts...maybe chocolate??

I think that next year, i'd like to add these celebrations to my list of holidays that I already celebrate. What's a few more gifts and a little bit of fun, anyway?

I'm not the lovey dovey type, but this melts even my frigid heart! (Ok. Definitely not frigid. Let's say lukewarm :)
