Today I witnessed a modern-day version of Hide-And-Go-Seek. I never thought that times had changed so much since I was a little kid running through the house, trying to find the best possible hiding spot.
Apparently, nowadays, you can't use the whole house to play the game.
Also, it's pretty normal to hide in the same exact spot (THREE TIMES)-even with a sneaky adult (ME) guiding the little stinker to a different and great hiding spot.
Hiding in an obvious spot where you can be clearly seen by other onlookers, like vertical blinds, with only one strip of blinds covering your body, is considered to be an acceptable hiding spot.
It is even common to yell after a few minutes of not being found, as to steer your seeker in the right direction.
What are these insane rules, I ask?? And who came up with them?
In the olden days, we NEVER hid in the same spot more than once. It was practically AGAINST THE LAW to hide in the same spot. AND not to mention, embarrassing, because you weren't smart enough to find a new spot.
And if we weren't found after 5 minutes, we would silently cheer and keep hiding quietly, wondering how many more minutes we would be there. We would NEVER give up our spot and HOPE to be found!! That was unthinkable!
I'm hoping that my presence and annoying comments during the game of hide and seek today have influenced the two tykes that were playing. My hope for them is that they will change their rules and stay true to the classic game of hide-and-seek.
