Conversations with Krista

Preface:
Krista and I are invited to dinner by my bf and his roommate.  We're so excited, but have a lot to do before dinner, as we are getting our new house ready for a party we're hosting on Friday. So everything today was planned around this supposedly kick-ass paella dinner. (Now, who would want to miss that?)
fast-forward a few hours later...
Krista buys a cute shelf at Target and asks me to bring her car around to get the huge sucker in her tiny Civic.  I arrive at the front of the store with her car, she comes in tow with Target boys and shelf.  We realize that the shelf does not fit into the car, and the Target boys tell us, much to Krista's dismay, that no, we cannot angle the long thing so that it hangs out the passenger window.  So Krista calls her dad to come save the day.  The next part of the story is the actual conversation.
[Outside of Target, in front of Krista's car.]

Me: So what did your dad say?
Krista:  He'll be here in 5 mins.
Me:  Ok, should we just wait inside?
Krista: Yes. [I turn away from our car to walk into Target.]
Krista:  Don't you think we need to move the car out of the fire zone and back into an actual parking space?
Me: Oh yeah! Hold on, OR should I take your car home and begin organizing the basement?
Krista (eyes brimming with 'clean-freak' excitement): YES! That would be great.
Me: Oh, I guess I should go to the grocery store to have something to bring to dinner.
Krista: Hmmmm..ok- No! I've got it! I'll go to my bros to get one of my SweetStreet desserts.  What kind do you want...chocolate banana custard, or fruit tart?
Me: What's SweetTreat? And will we have enough for the four of us?
Krista: Oh it's great, I have a million of those desserts!
Me: Why so many?
Krista: Cause I bought them and never ate them.
Me: Oh, ok, so it's easy.  I want the banana one. Wait! How will we get to your brothers? We don't have time!
Krista:  He lives 5 mins from here, I'll just go after my dad comes.
Me: Ok, deal. So I'll go home and begin organizing.
[I walk to around the car to get in and then pause. Krista is on the other side of the car, so you can imagine, we are speaking very loudly to each other.]
Krista: We need a plan.
Me: Okay. What?
Krista: You set up the downstairs, and I'll set up the shelf upstairs. Then we'll vacuum, sweep, and mop the basement.
Me: Grrreat!
Krista: Ugh, that basement is gross.
Me: So what are you going to wear to dinner?
Krista: I don't know.
Me (pointing to my tennis skirt) : Can I just wear this?
Krista: Absolutely! You look so adorable in that!
Me (smiling) : Thanks!
Krista: What should I wear? I guess I'll put on something different.
Me (looking lovingly at my roommate): No, I actually love all of your shorts like that.  We're playing tennis later, right? Anyway, I think you could just wear those.  You look so cute in them.
Krista: Awww, thanks!
Me: Ugghh...that basement is so disgusting.  Am I really going to have to shower before we go?
Krista: Well...I think I'm going to shower.
[Unexpected and abnormal pause in conversation. Krista and I are just looking at each other.]
Krista (looking around, laughing): OMG, if someone just heard our entire conversation, they would think we we're soooo crazy.
Me: Haha...we are.
